The key difference between the PMP and CAPM certification exams through PMI is that while the CAPM certification exams are considered more entry-level exams in project management, the PMP is considered at the professional level in the project management field (Kerzner, 2003). Also, there are less restrictive prerequisites for CAPM exams than PMP certification exams. The exam is also relatively easier and less expensive than PMP exams. The PMP exam is more challenging but provides a wide range of benefits, including a higher salary than CAPM certification. CAPM requires a secondary school degree or 23 hours of project management education. The CAPM exam cost $225/$300 for non-members and members respectively. On the other hand, PMP exams cost $405 and $555 for members and non-members respectively.
